Dropped cigarette blamed for early Saturday morning rollover

On Saturday, March 23, at 5:15 a.m., Crook County Sheriff’s Office deputies and the Crook County Fire and Rescue were dispatched to a single vehicle accident on Highway 126 near milepost 12.

Deputies arrived on scene and contacted Preston Lee Cain, 49, of Prineville, still in the vehicle but uninjured. Cain had to be extricated from the vehicle but was not hurt.

According to the sheriff's office release, it was determined that he was driving westbound when he dropped a cigarette in his lap and got distracted. He lost control of his vehicle and slid onto the shoulder and rolled his 1988 Toyota Pickup, coming to rest facing eastbound.

No citations were issued
