PORTLAND - Cedar Mill, Murrayhill and Wolf Creek, as well as four other teams, have their eyes set on a district championship - and the World Series bid that goes with it.
The local squads will start what they hope is a trek to the World Series when they begin play Monday at the District 4 Little League Majors softball tourney (ages 11-12) held at Alpenrose Dairy, 6149 S.W. Shattuck Road.
Defending district champion Cedar Mill is one of four teams that will play in Pool A at the tournament. Forest Grove, Lake Oswego and Tigard district champion Cedar Mill are the other teams in Pool A.
Tualatin City joins Murrayhill and Wolf Creek in Pool B.
Cedar Mill starts tourney play Monday when it takes on Tigard in a pool play game starting at 5:15 p.m. on the east field. Tualatin City meets Murrayhill in a pool play game Monday starting at 7:30 p.m. on the main field.
Also on Monday, Forest Grove faces Lake Oswego in a game starting at 5 p.m. on the main field.
On Tuesday, Tigard plays Lake Oswego at 5 p.m. on the main field. Wolf Creek plays Murrayhill at 5:15 p.m. on the east field on Tuesday and Forest Grove faces Cedar Mill at 7:30 p.m. on the main field.
On Wednesday, Tigard plays Forest Grove at 5 p.m. on the main field. That game will be followed by the 7:30 p.m. contest between Wolf Creek and Tualatin City. Lake Oswego plays Cedar Mill at 5:15 p.m. on the east field on Wednesday.
The tournament semifinals are set for next Thursday. On Friday, the third-place game will be held at 5 p.m. The district championship contest will follow at 7:30 p.m.
