The Times honored with eight awards from newspaper publishers
Sports reporter Dan Brood and photographer Jaime Valdez both bring home first place awards
The Times, covering Tigard, Tualatin and Sherwood, received a number of awards in its circulation category Friday night during the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association meeting in Welches.
Times sports reporter Dan Brood received a first place award for the best sports page, and Times photographer Jaime Valdez was recognized for the best feature photo with a first place award.
The Times competed with weekly newspapers across the state with a circulation of 3,501 or more. The first-place honors were in addition to six other awards the newspaper and its reporters picked up during the annual ONPA Better Newspaper Contest.
The annual competition included entries by 57 of the association's eligible 88 newspapers of all sizes across the state. Journalists from the Mississippi Press Association judged this year's contest.
Besides his first place award, Brood received a second place for best sports story.
In addition to his first place award Valdez received a second place award for best sports photo, and two honorable mentions for best sports photo and best feature photo.
Times reporter Barbara Sherman won two second place awards, one in the best lifestyle coverage category and the other for best coverage of business and economic issues.
Association officials announced the awards Friday during the first day of the group's annual meeting of newspaper publishers.
