TIGARD - Time is running short to run for mayor or a City Council position in Tigard.
The deadline to file for the position of mayor is Monday, Aug. 7, at 5 p.m., and the deadline to file for a seat on the council is Monday, Aug. 28, at 4 p.m.
Prior to campaigning or raising funds, prospective candidates should file their election forms, according to City Recorder Cathy Wheatley.
Registered voters who have lived within the Tigard city limits for at least 12 months immediately before the November election must first file a prospective petition with the city elections official, who is Wheatley. Once filed, candidates can then circulate petitions and file forms to place their names on the ballot.
The city requires that candidates obtain 149 signatures from qualified voters and recommends that candidates collect at least 190 signatures before submitting them for verification to the Washington County Elections Division, 3700 S.W. Murray Blvd., Beaverton 97005.
