Crawfish fest coloring contest calls for creative kids
Crawfish coloring contest winner to get $100 to spend at Bullwinkle's Family Fun Center
TUALATIN - Got some crayons and a flare for creativity? The kids' coloring contest is back this year at the Tualatin Crawfish Festival, which takes place Friday and Saturday, Aug. 11 and 12 at the Tualatin Commons and Tualatin Community Park.
'Last year was the first year we had done (the coloring contest) for some time now, so we are excited it is catching on,' said the Tualatin chamber's executive director, Hope Howard.
The contest has only two rules: Kids must color a version of the 2006 crawfish festival logo, and they must use their imaginations. Last year, contestants went beyond the ordinary crayons and markers and used paints, felt pens and glitter glues to pull ahead in the running for the grand prize.
'We had some wonderful entries. You could tell the kids got very creative with the contest,' Howard said. 'Some went totally outside the box, decorating with stickers, marshmallows, beads and even ribbons.'
The first 50 kids to turn in their completed artwork to Umpqua Bank on Martinazzi Avenue and Boones Ferry Road will receive a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for Dippin' Dots from McDonald's.
'I love seeing the kids' faces when they turn in their artwork. It's fun to see what they can do,' said Umpqua Bank branch manager Tasha Schmidt.
The submitted artwork will hang in Umpqua Bank, and 50 to 60 of the most creative entries will be displayed on the baseball backstop during the festival.
All entries will be eligible for the grand prize, which is a $100 gift certificate to Bullwinkle's Family Fun Center in Wilsonville. The winner will be announced on Saturday, Aug. 12 at 5 p.m. on the Main Stage in Tualatin Community Park.
Coloring contest forms are available at the Umpqua Bank at Martinazzi and Boones Ferry roads or at the Tualatin Chamber of Commerce.
