Three city officials will fill in for Jan Wellman
City Council accepts city administrator's resignation July 19
FAIRVIEW - The City Council voted unanimously Wednesday, July 19, to accept City Administrator Jan Wellman's letter of resignation.
Wellman, who was placed on paid administrative leave Wednesday, July 12, will remain on leave until Monday, July 31. His resignation will be effective at that time.
According to a press release issued by City Attorney Paul Elsner, Wellman's imminent resignation is in response to 'communication and stylistic differences' between Wellman and other city officials.
Until the city can hire a full-time administrator, three city officials - Bob Cochran, public works director, Ken Johnson, police chief, and Laura Zenter, finance director - will share the duties on a rotational basis, Fairview Mayor Mike Weatherby said.
Fairview officials intended to hire an interim city administrator, but found that their list of possible candidates was limited, and they were grateful when the several of the city's department managers stepped up to help, Weatherby said.
