Obituary: Edith Dorothy McNeil

East County resident Edith Dorothy McNeil, 83, died Tuesday, July 18. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 28, at Gresham United Methodist Church, 620 N.W. Eighth Street, Gresham. A reception will follow.

Edith was born Jan. 11, 1923, in Pawtucket, R.I., to Samuel and Edith McBride. She was raised and educated in Pawtucket, where she graduated from East High School. She then studied to become a dental assistant.

On June 9, 1942, Edith met Bob McNeil in Providence, R.I., and he proposed the same day. The couple was married Dec. 5, 1942, in Chicago. Edith worked as a wedding director for many years.

Edith was an active member of the Gresham United Methodist Church, where she led a group and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed dancing, picnics and leisurely drives.

Survivors include her husband of East County; daughter, Janet Morgan of Portland; son, Grant McNeil of Portland; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
