A local teen has been upgraded to fair condition following a single-car accident at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, July 15.
Preston Brand, 18, of Gresham was driving a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta southbound on Foster Road when he lost control of the car while approaching a gradual a curve just before Ritchie Road, said Lt. Jason Gates, Multnomah County Sheriff's Office spokesman.
The car skidded about 120 feet, went airborne, hit the ground and flipped over, coming to rest on the front porch of Pleasant Valley Grade School. Debris from the destroyed car was strewn across the school's lawn.
Brand was taken via an ambulance to Oregon Heath and Science University. His passenger - Shawn Nevils, 19, of Gresham - was treated for minor injuries to his hand. Police also cited and released Nevils, who allegedly was intoxicated, for being a minor in possession of alcohol, Gates said.
Both young men were wearing seatbelts and their airbags deployed during the crash. Investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash and are investigating whether alcohol was involved.
