PICA, Portland Art Center, Disjecta … does Portland need another nonprofit contemporary art center?
Artpreneur Jeff Jahn thinks so. The co-founder of Portland's best art blog, Port ( www.portlandart.net ) is setting up Organism, an institution (a word he says Portlanders fear) to bring international-caliber contemporary art (painting, sculpture, video) and curators to town.
Jahn is coming out of the blocks pretty fast with a benefit that includes video by Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist, who is always good for a laugh, plus music from the Dandy Warhols (ask an adult) and the Small Sails.
Everything starts with the 'ask,' and before Organism finds a permanent home and reveals exactly which heavy-hitters are on its board, Jahn wants your tax-deductible entertainment dollars.
