Entertainment in Sandys living room during August
Music and Movies in Meinig returns for its eleventh season
Meinig Park has been referred to as 'the living room of Sandy,' and every August, it especially lives up to that nickname by being a place where the family of Sandy gathers to enjoy free entertainment.
Starting Wednesday, Aug. 2, the city of Sandy begins its 11th annual Movies and Music in Meinig, bringing an eclectic array of bands and an entertaining selection of family-friendly films.
Concerts are held at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday in August. Many people take advantage of the park setting by having a picnic before the show. Local eatery Goodie Junction also will have a barbecue dinner and baked treats available for those not wanting to pack the picnic basket.
The Clumsy Lovers kicks off the concert series Aug. 2, performing its signature blend of pop, rock, bluegrass, country and Celtic music. Mariachi Viva Mexico brings a south-of-the-border flavor to the Meinig Park stage Aug. 9 with its authentic costumes and songs. Fools in Paradise - coming Aug. 16 - is sure to please with its fun, high-energy marimba music. On Aug. 23, longtime Portland blues artist Terry Robb and his band will feature songs from his latest CD, 'Resting Place.' Wrapping up the series Aug. 30 will be Hot Club Sandwich, which promises a steaming serving of 'Gypsy jazz.'
Movies in the park begin at dusk every Saturday from Aug. 5 to Sept. 9. Bring a blanket or some lawn chairs and experience movie-watching in a natural setting unlike any theater you've ever seen. Bring a snack or enjoy the Sandy High School concession stand, which raises money for the senior all-night party.
