Gresham resident Ruth E. Brown, 91, died Thursday, July 20, in Gresham. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at St. Johns Wesleyan Church, 8550 N. St. Louis St., Portland. Interment will be at Skyline Memorial Gardens, 4101 N.W. Skyline Blvd., Portland.

Ruth was born April 8, 1915, in Logan County, Ky., to Elmer and Euvie Ashby. She was raised and educated in Kentucky.

Ruth married Harold Bailey, but they later divorced. In 1946, she moved to Portland. She then married Delbert Brown.

When she was younger, Ruth worked as a cook in a number of restaurants.

She was a member of St. Johns Wesleyan Church in Portland. She enjoyed flowers and gardening.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Paul Ashby.

Survivors include her sons, Glendle Bailey of Cottonwood, Ariz., Jewell Bailey of Gresham, Garland Bailey of Scappoose and Rick Brown of Vancouver, Wash.; daughters, Laney Cooke of Duxbury, Mass., and Wanda Risley of Eugene; brother, Shirley Ashby of Auburn, Ky.; sister, Betty Pearson of Bowling Green, Ky.; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to Doernbecher Children's Hospital or the Kiwanis Children's Cancer Program.
