More than 40 teams from Oregon and Washington attended the ASA 16A Regional Softball Tournament at Wallace Marine Park in Salem. After eight games in three days, including five in Sunday's heat, the Brent Macey-coached Beaverton Blaze can claim to be the best - or at least one of the two best.

The Beaverton Blaze-Macey went 7-1 and earned the distinction as the co-Regional champion with the Hillsboro Thunder-Allison after beating the Thunder 7-6 in the final game of the tournament. The Blaze trailed 6-5 heading into the seventh inning. Megan Peterson singled and scored on a double by Mary Claire Brenner, who had five home runs in the tournament. With two outs, Brenner scored the winning run on an infield single by Danielle Roisom, who slid head-first into first base to beat the throw.

Beaverton opened the tournament by beating the Snohomish Pride 6-0 in its only game Friday. The Blaze defeated the Cyclones 8-4 and the Tri-City Angels 7-2 on Saturday. The Thunder handed Beaverton it's only loss in a 3-2 setback to begin Sunday's play. The Blaze rebounded with four straight wins to tie for the title.

They began the run with a 12-3 win over their namesake the Beaverton Blaze - 90's. After a 7-2 win over the Washington Lady Hawks, Beaverton shut out the Tigard Blast 10-0 to earn a rematch against the Thunder. Both the Blaze and Thunder earned a berth to the ASA 16A Softball National Tournament August 1-6 in Seattle.

Members of the Blaze include Tualatin's Roisom and

Natalie Taylor, Lake Oswego's Carlen Don, Claire Velaski of Beaverton, Aloha's Makenzie Delenikos, Jesuit's Brenner, Ali Junell, Lauren Macy and Brittany Wolf, and Churchill's Peterson and McKensie Booth. The team was coached by Brent Macey, Dan Roisom and Brian Velaski.
