ATLANTA, Ga. -Tigard teen Alex Salsman, returned last week from the United States Fencing Association's 10-day Summer National Championships in Atlanta, Ga., with two gold medals earning him the title of National Champion.

This year's victories, in combination with his two championship wins from last year, qualify him as a four-time National Champion.

In addition to his gold medal victories in Under 19 Men's Foil Team and

Senior Men's Foil Team, he garnered a silver medal in Division I Men's Foil Team and an individual bronze medal in Division I Men's Foil.

To earn his Division I bronze medal, he had to fence Olympian Jon Tiomkin of New York.

More than 3,600 fencers from around the country and of all ages competed in this 10-day event.

Alex then joined teammates Ariel DeSmet of Troutdale, Nick Crebs of Beaverton and Stuart Kelly of Beaverton to win the team events.

Salsman has been fencing for five years and trains at the NorthWest Fencing Center in Beaverton. His coach is five-time Olympian, Michael Marx.
