Gardens inspire art
The fourth annual Waterlily Festival and Invitational Art Show returns this weekend to Hughes Water Gardens, 25289 S.W. Stafford Road.
More than 25 regional artists will be showing their work, including a number of pieces inspired by the display gardens.
This year's show focuses on art in the garden, including sculptural work in ceramic, copper, bronze, powder-coated metal, flame-cut metal, glass and stone.
The festival opens Friday night with a gala and artists reception open to the public, hosted by Hughes Water Gardens' owner Eamonn Hughes, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Portland Youth Philharmonic will play from 7 to 8 p.m., and wine tasting will be available.
On both this weekend and Saturday and Sunday, August 5 and 6, guided tours of the waterlily collections will take place. The Festival is open daily, July 29 through Aug. 6, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
From 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, Victoria Lily Bloom Night will be celebrated with all of the varieties of Victoria Waterlilies on display.
Additional events such as artist demonstrations and family events, including Koi origami, will take place at different times. For information, check the Web site www.hugheswatergardens.com or call 503-638-1709.
