Knights force do-or-die finale vs. Tigard

East County rallies for a 3-1 win to even the series

East County rallied from an early deficit to keep its summer season alive with a 3-1 win against Tigard to even the second-round playoff series Thursday night.

The Knights moved in front 2-1 in the fourth inning when Greg Bobnick and Joe McKee led off with back-to-back walks and scored on infield grounders by Kyle Seymour and Will DeBiccari.

East County relied on its defense to secure the victory, as Tigard stranded runners at third base in the fifth and seventh innings. Relief pitcher Greg Bobnick entered the game in the seventh inning and shut the door by allowing just one hit down the stretch. He finished with four strikeouts, including one to end the seventh inning with runners at second and third.

'Coming into that situation forced me to throw strikes right away,' Bobnick said. 'We didn't look at this as an elimination game, instead we played it like any other night.'

The teams meet for the winner-take-all Game 3 at 8:15 p.m. Friday, July 28.

Additional coverage of the American Legion playoffs will appear in the Saturday edition of the Gresham Outlook.
