Robbers shot to kill victim, but had lousy aim

Man, 23, treated for arm injury

Police are investigating a robbery and attempted murder after a 23-year-old man was shot in the arm early Wednesday, July 26.

The shooting happened at 4 a.m. at the Dawson Village apartment complex in the 17300 block of Northeast Halsey Street.

Two men reportedly robbed the victim - Jeremy M. Kirkpatrick, 23, who lives in the complex - and one of the suspects shot him once in the lower left arm before fleeing the scene in an older red sedan, said Officer Grant McCormick, Gresham police spokesman.

Kirkpatrick was transported via ambulance to Legacy Emmanuel Hospital, where his non-life threatening wound was treated. McCormick said detectives are not yet disclosing what the suspects stole from the victim, but did say the gunman shot to kill Kirkpatrick during the robbery. However the suspect had, 'lousy aim,' McCormick said.

Police describe the suspects as Caucasian men. One was in his mid-20s, was 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and 180 pounds with very short hair. The other man was in his early 30s, 6 feet tall and 170 pounds with dark medium-length hair.
