Sandy picks up first win at Regionals
The Pioneers beat Livingston 8-6 to finish pool play
Sandy's Cal Ripken baseball team picked up its first win at the 12-and-under regional tournament, knocking off Livingston, Mont., 8-6 in its final round-robin game Friday afternoon.
The Pioneers started quickly with three-run spurts in the second and third innings, while Taylor Rydman hit a homer in fourth inning to add to the cushion. Cody Farnes hit 3 for 3 with a double and also pitched four innings.
Teammate Aaron Larson went 3 for 4 at the plate, while Brad Martin was 2 for 2 with a double. Sandy did not suffer a single strikeout.
The Pioneers advance to play Florence, Mont., to start bracket play at 4 p.m. Saturday. With a victory, Sandy would advance to a second-round game at 7 p.m.
