Obituary: Sylvia Irene Griffin

Sylvia Irene Griffin, 64, a resident of Boring, died Friday, July 21, in Boring. A memorial service was held Friday, July 28, at Hood View Seventh-day Adventist Church, Boring.
Sylvia was born Jan. 14, 1942, in Saskatchewan, Canada, to Wilfred and Eva Werk. She was raised and educated in Canada. She moved to the United States to attend Walla Walla College in College Place, Wash., and graduated with a nursing degree.
On July 5, 1965, Sylvia married Dr. John William Griffin in Caldwell, Idaho. She worked as a nurse in the California public health system and later for Portland Adventist Convalescent Center.
Sylvia and John moved to Boring in 1973. They started Cherry Blossom Cottage, an assisted living facility in Portland, which Sylvia managed from 1989 to 1999.
She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her brother, Douglas Werk. Survivors include her husband of Boring; sons, John Griffin of Salt Lake City, Craigan Griffin of Bend and Mark Griffin of Boring; daughter, Rebecca Meadowcroft of Portland; mother of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; brother, Ron Werk of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada; sisters, Grace Lapierre of Saskatoon, Ellen Dielmann of Winnipeg, Gertrude Scheresky of Max, N.D., Doris West of Cleburne, Texas, and Judy Griener of Camas, Wash.; and eight grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Hood View Jr. Academy, 26505 S.E. Kelso Road, Boring, 97009. Gresham Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
