Eagles advance to final day at state tourney
Centennial beats Roseburg 16-7 in elimination game
Centennial advanced to the final day of the A American Legion state tournament with a 16-7 win against Roseburg Horizon on Monday afternoon.
The Eagles broke the game open with a nine-run burst in the third inning to record their most lopsided victory of the tournament. Troy Harris and Marcus Martz each hit two-run singles during the scoring spree. Centennial finished the game with 16 hits.
Centennial reliever Kenneth Clarke shut out Roseburg through the final 3 1/3 innings and finished with four strikeouts.
The Eagles advance to play either Central Oregon or North Medford at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Centennial needs back-to-back wins during Tuesday's championship round to claim the state title.
"Tomorrow is the last day of the tournament, and we'll do whatever it takes to get through it," Eagles' manager Jake Austin said.
Additional coverage of the best-of-three series will appear in Wednesday's edition of the Gresham Outlook.
