Gresham resident Francis C. Claus, 50, died of Lou Gehrig's disease Thursday, July 27, in Portland.
A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at Gresham Funeral Chapel, 257 S.E. Roberts Ave.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, also at Gresham Funeral Chapel. A reception will follow. Private interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Gresham.
Francis was born Jan. 10, 1956, in Rochester, N.Y., to Carl and Catherine (Fallon) Claus. He was raised and educated in Pittsford, N.Y., where he graduated from high school.
He continued his education at Ithaca College, in Ithaca, N.Y., and Western Washington University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in recreation and parks management in 1980.
On July 5, 1980, Francis married Debbie Deardorff in Colville, Wash. They made their home in Tampa, Fla., where he worked for the Hillsboro County Parks and Recreation Division. During his career, he served as a park ranger, interpretive ranger and aquatics coordinator.
In 1995, Francis moved to East County where he worked various jobs. In 1998, he took a job with the city of Troutdale's Parks Facilities Maintenance department.
Francis enjoyed spending time with his family, rock climbing, hiking and camping.
Survivors include his wife of Gresham; son, Joshua Claus of Gresham; daughter, Talia Claus of Gresham; parents of Fairport, N.Y.; sisters, Julia Strom of Westminster, Md., and Carolyn Vasile of Churchville, N.Y.; brothers, Tom Claus of South Berwick, Maine, and Ray Claus of Albany, N.Y.
