Grocery Outlet checker Shari Thurston stands near a display that reminds shoppers the Sandy Grocery Outlet store has partnered with the Sandy Community Action Center to assist with its mission to serve the area's needy
families. Donations of cash and nonperishable food are being collected throughout July at the store, using one of the store's established programs. Thurston, who calls herself the 'donations queen,' has collected the most donations of any other checker, according to Sandy Store owner Tim Thompson. The store is displaying the names of donors in its windows and placing their name in a drawing at month's end for a valuable gift certificate. With five days still left in the collection time, the Action Center has picked up several loads of groceries, and the cashiers have collected more than $1,000 for the center.
The store is at 36701 Highway 26, and can be reached by calling 503-668-6950.
