East County squares series with 3-1 win

The Twins lead 1-0 early, but don't score again and see East County get even

TIGARD - East County rallied from an early deficit to keep its summer season alive with a 3-1 win against Tigard to even its second-round AAA legion series last Thursday.

Tigard jumped in front 1-0 in the first inning when Jeff Jones led off with a single and scored two batters later.

But that was the end of the offensive highlights for Tigard.

The Knights moved in front 2-1 in the fourth inning when Greg Bobnick and Joe McKee led off with back-to-back walks and scored on infield grounders by Kyle Seymour and Will DeBiccari.

After rthat, East County relied on its defense to secure the win, as Tigard stranded runners at third base in the fifth and seventh innings.

Bobnick entered the game in the seventh inning and shut the door by allowing just one hit down the stretch. He finished with four strikeouts, including one to end the seventh inning with runners at second and third.

East County put down another threat in the fourth inning when Tigard tried to score on a double steal. Instead, DeBiccari ignored the runner going to second and fired a hard throw down the third-base line where Mason tagged out the lead runner.

The Knights added an insurance run in the sixth inning on an RBI-single by Ryan Morales. He almost added another run in the ninth inning only to see his long ball fall a few feet short in deep center field.

Morales started the game and struck out five through seven innings on the mound.
