The Class 3A/2A/1A all-star football game will be played Saturday, starting at 4 p.m., in Baker City
BAKER CITY - One more high school football game.
That's what Lukkes Gilgan has on Saturday.
And, if it's anything like what he did during his senior year at Sherwood, he'll likely make the most of it.
Gilgan, a 2006 Sherwood High School graduate, will be playing for the West squad in the 2006 Oregon Shrine East-West All-Star Football Game, which will be contested Saturday, starting at 4 p.m. in Baker City.
The game features many of the top graduated Class 3A/2A/1A players from around the state.
Gilgan, in his senior year at Sherwood, helped lead the Bowmen to the Class 3A state championship game for the second year in a row. As a quarterback, for the season, he completed 72 of 131 pass attempts for 1,246 yards and 14 touchdowns with five interceptions. He also was Sherwood's top rusher, running for 536 yards and 10 more TDs on 100 carries.
He earned Tri-Valley League Offensive Player of the Year honors and Class 3A All-State Player of the Year honors.
He also was a first-team all-league and first-team All-State pick on defense as a defensive back.
Other Tri-Valley League players selected to play in Saturday's all-star game include Blaine Begay of Madras, Alan Noble of Estacada, Cameron Smith of Wilsonville and Serjio Villarreal of Gladstone.
Bill Masei of North Bend is the head coach for the West team while Greg Grant of Heppner will coach the East squad.
The game, which will be telecast on Fox Sports Northwest, raises money for the Shrine Hospital for Children.
