Former East County resident Harry Wallace Tomlin, 84, died Sunday, Aug. 6, at an assisted living facility in Sandy. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 11, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 795 E. Powell Blvd., Gresham. Interment will follow at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 S.E. Mount Scott Blvd., Portland.
Harry was born Aug. 30, 1921, in Withrow, Wash., to William and Margaret (Large) Tomlin. The family moved to the Orient-Pleasant Home area where he was raised and educated.
He married Marie Dahrens on Oct. 1, 1942.
The couple made their home in Sandy, where he began his career as a truck driver prior to entering the Marine Corps in 1945. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
After his discharge, he returned to Sandy and worked for Consolidated Freightways. The family moved around Wyoming and Oregon until he retired in 1972. The couple returned to Sandy in 2003.
Harry enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing and boating. He also loved woodworking and was an avid reader.
Survivors include his wife of Sandy; daughters, Janet Grimes of Colton and Pamela Lunger of Hughsville, Pa.; son, Randy Tomlin of Gresham; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Sandy funeral home is handling arrangements.
