A man who died after losing control of his motorcycle on Northeast Marine Drive has been identified as an East County resident.

Timothy Gallagher, 53, who lived in the Wilkes neighborhood near the Glendoveer Golf Course, was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Northeast Marine Drive at about 7:50 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, when he rounded a curve in the 1500 block and saw that traffic in front of him had slowed down, said Sgt. Brian Schmautz, Portland police spokesman.

He slammed on his brakes and landed on the pavement. An ambulance transported him to Legacy Emanuel Hospital and Health Center, where he died.

Accident investigators don't believe speed or alcohol were factors in the accident, Schmautz said.

Gallagher used to be a firefighter in Multnomah County Fire District 10, which covered Gresham and East Multnomah County, before much of the district merged with Portland in the 1980s. He retired as a lieutenant from the Portland Fire Bureau in 1999.
