Gresham resident Dolores 'Dee' Theodora Wehrkamp, 87, died Sunday, Aug. 6. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 507 W. Powell Blvd., Gresham.
Dee was born Sept. 29, 1918, in Fargo, N.D., to Theodore Barton and Euphemia Clara (Johnson) Frye. She was raised and educated in Fargo, where she graduated from Fargo Central High in 1936. She continued her education at Moorhead State College and graduated with a bachelor's degree in music and English in 1940.
On April 14, 1946, Dee married Roy Vernon Wehrkamp in Portland. From 1953-58, Dee taught at Esnar Music in Sacramento, Calif. She served as the church organist at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Carmichael, Calif., from 1960-68. In 1972, Dee moved to Portland and in 1984, to Gresham.
Dee was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Boring Turnip Society. Dee enjoyed the sound of the jazz piano and music of the 1930s and 1940s. She had a special love for children and cats.
On Oct. 8, 1997, Dee was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include her son, Tim Wehrkamp of Greenbelt, Md.; and nephews, Greg Lyslo of Troutdale and Jerry Lyslo of West Linn.
