East County resident Christine Jones, 62, died Sunday, Aug. 6, at her home, after a battle with breast cancer and Parkinson's disease. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 9901 S.E. Caruthers St., Portland.

Christine was born Nov. 13, 1943, in Washington to Charles and Fae Olson. While her father was away during World War II, her family moved to Salt Lake City, where they lived with her grandparents, Walter and Essie Cottam. Her family later moved to Gresham, where she graduated from Gresham High School in 1961.

While she was in high school, Christine sang in the top choir, served as publicity chairwoman for the Keyettes and was the senior editor of the yearbook, 'Munhinotu.'

Christine continued her education at the University of Utah and graduated cum laude in 1965 with a bachelor's degree in art and a high school teaching certificate. She then accepted a position as a junior high school art teacher in Salt Lake City.

Nov. 23, 1965, Christine married Stan Jones in Salt Lake City. They made their home in Portland, where she taught at Russellville School in the David Douglas School District for a short time. She was a homemaker.

Christine was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include her husband of Portland; sons, Wayne Jones of Tooele, Utah, Steven Jones of South Jordan, Utah, Aaron Jones of South Salt Lake, Utah, and Gordon Jones of Park City, Utah; daughters, Celinda Jensen of Tucson, Ariz., and Laura Montierth of Canton, Mich.; father of Gresham; brothers, Kent Olson of Washington, Eric Olson of Portland, Gregg Olson of Salem and Nils Olsen the Dalles; and 16 grandchildren.

Gresham Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
