Former Gresham resident Ralph Irvin Neibauer, 85, died Thursday, Aug. 10, in a foster care facility. A memorial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Gateway Elks Lodge, 711 N.E. 100th Ave., Portland.
Ralph was born March 26, 1921, in Gresham to Irvin Ralph Neibauer and Hazel Rose Wheeler. He was raised and educated in East County, where he graduated from high school in 1939.
Ralph enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served as a medic in North Africa during World War II. He was discharged in 1946.
He worked as a welder with a Portland gas company and in public transit. He was a bus driver, dispatcher, supervisor and trainer. He was awarded the TriMet million mile safe driving award before retiring in 1983.
Ralph married Donna Jean Neibauer on Oct. 7, 1989.
Ralph was a member of the Tumbleweed Square Dance Club, the Elks and the Eagles. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and square dancing.
Survivors include his wife of Gresham; son, Gary Neibauer of Gresham; daughters, Carol Washburn and Darlene Paz, both of Gresham; stepson, Jerry Krzmarzick of Portland; stepdaughters, Eva Van Dyke and Judy Perry, both of Portland; sister, Lillian Robinson of Gresham; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
