Sewer rates, surface water fees going up

Lake Oswego residents will see slight increases on bi-monthly water bills, which went into effect July 1.

Two of the four fees assessed on the bill have increased five percent: Sewer rates and surface water fees.

Sewer rates increased from an average of $47.04 every other month to an average of $49.38. Surface water fees increased from an average of $14.60 every other month to $15.34.

Both those programs fund maintenance and operations of their respective utilities. The surface water fee increased by 10 percent last year to boost the program toward improved water quality locally.

This year's increases account for inflation, according to Richard Seals, finance director for the city of Lake Oswego.

No increases in water rates or street maintenance fees are planned this year. Those fees are also assessed on the water bill.
