Lovena Chaput is a national champion again. And she earned All-American status again.
The 2004 Tualatin High School graduate accomplished both of those feats as she helped lead the Stratford, Conn., Brakettes to the title at the ASA Women's Major Fastpitch National Tournament, which concluded Sunday in Amherst, N.Y.
The Brakettes downed the Southern California Sliders of Yoma Linda, Calif., 7-3 in Sunday's title contest.
Chaput had a two-run, fourth-inning double in the championship game. She went 2-for-2 at the plate in the contest while also drawing a walk.
'We really pulled together as a team during the championships,' Chaput said in a release on the GoDucks.com website.
Chaput also had three triples throughout the tournament. She also earned ASA first-team All-American honors as a outfielder. She was a second-team All-American pick last year as a shortstop.
The national title is the second for Chaput, who was a member of the 2002 Sun Supply ages 16-and-under team that claimed national goal.
