OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Lauren Grill and Carlyn Re, maybe on the same team for the last time, finished their summer season in solid fashion.

The two 2006 Tualatin High School graduates, both bound for Division I colleges to play softball, turned in strong performances for the Oregon Panthers at the ASA ages 18-and-under Gold national tournament, which ended Monday at the Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The Panther team, which also includes Tualatin High junior-to-be Jordan Skinner, went 3-2 in bracket play at the double elimination tourney.

The Oregon team, after winning both of its pool play contests on Aug. 7, opened bracket play on Aug. 8 by scoring a 7-6 win over South Bay Pride.

Re, who will play college softball at the University of Oregon, had a big day at the plate in the victory. Re, who played first base and batted in the No. 2 spot in the lineup, went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and an RBI.

Grill, who played at third base, and Skinner, who played at shortstop, each went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

On Aug. 9, the Panthers were edged 3-2, in nine innings, by the San Diego Renegades.

Grill blasted a home run in that contest. She scored both of the team's runs while going 1-for-2 at the plate in addition to walking twice. Skinner went 1-for-3 and stole a base.

The Panthers bounced back from the loss to smack American Pastime 7-0 in a game played last Thursday.

Re went 1-for-3 at the plate in the win, scoring a pair of runs. Grill went 1-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base. Skinner added a run scored.

The Panthers were eliminated from the tournament Friday when they fell 7-6 to Southern Force. The Oregon squad rallied to score four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the team came up just short.

Grill and Re each went 2-for-3 at the plate in that final game. Re doubled and scored twice while Grill added a run.
