Murrayhill comes through
Jace Fry's gutsy pitching performance, two late runs pace win over Missouri
WILLIAMSPORT - The ride continues for Murrayhill.
The Murrayhill Little League Majors all-stars from Beaverton won their second straight pool play game on Monday night at Lamade Stadium, scoring single runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to carry them past Daniel Boone Little League of Missouri 2-1.
The win left Murrayhill with a final pool play record of 2-1, good for second place in its four-team pool, and guaranteed the Beaverton stars a place in the World Series semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Murrayhill will face the winner of Pool A, the victor in tonight's Southeast vs. Great Lakes matchup.
Murrayhill got a dynamite pitching performance from Jace Fry (three hits, four walks and one hit batter with 10 strikeouts) but still trailed 1-0 when Missouri's Beau Burkett singled and later scored on Jeffrey Ausmus' tapper in the second inning.
But Murrayhill rallied in the fifth, getting a Perry Lampman triple past the diving Missouri right fielder and its first run on Fry's one-out single to tie the game at 1-1. And Murrayhill scored the game-winner in its next at-bat when Miguel Rivera tripled off the right field fence and pinch-runner Austin Perry scored on Devon DeJardin's looping single to center field.
