Cell phone thwarts abduction at Multnomah Falls

Sheriff's deputies seek suspect in attempted abduction of 22-year-old woman

Multnomah County Sheriff's Office deputies are still looking for the man who tried to abduct a 22-year-old Vancouver, Wash., woman near Multnomah Falls on Sunday.

The victim was hiking alone on the Multnomah Falls Trail and was beginning her descent from the observation platform at 12:50 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, when a man came up behind her, grabbed her arm, and began pulling her, said Lt. Jason Gates, sheriff's office spokesman.

As this was happening, the victim's cell phone rang, and the suspect then fled the scene, heading east toward the woods, Gates said.

Although shaken by the incident, the victim was uninjured.

The suspect is described as a muscular adult male, wearing a black shirt, black pants and a black hat.

Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to call the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office tip line at 503-261-2810.
