Police find witnesses uncooperative on S.E. Pardee Street
Portland Police officers converged on S.E. Pardee Street, just east of S.E. Milwaukie Avenue and a block south of Holgate, in the Brooklyn neighborhood, just before 10 pm, on the evening of Thursday, August 17th. Prompting the heavy response was a 9-1-1 call reporting a shooting--possibly a drive-by shooting.
However, once officers arrived at the scene, the alleged male victim was combative with arriving officers and paramedics, and witnesses refused to provide any information. Some individuals also fled the area in a blue Dodge Durango, but when the vehicle was stopped, little could be learned. One report had indicated an assailant had jumped into the vehicle just before it sped away.
The victim appeared to the police to be injured--he was initially reported as having been shot in the chest--but could not be examined at the scene, because he was fighting and verbally abusive.
Officers cleared the scene within a half hour, having concluded that the victim, who was not publicly identified, had not really been shot. This was confirmed by medics an hour later, when he was getting medical attention at a hospital.
No arrests have been made in the incident, since the nature of the crime--if any--could not be determined from either the victim or the uncooperative witnesses.
