Robert Gary Broten
Robert Gary Broten, ABOC, an Optician employed at 'Moreland Vision Source' in Westmoreland, died suddenly on July 24th of unsuspected heart problems. 'He was a loveable character, and everybody around here knew him,' said co-worker Kathy Pettit. 'We held a tribute to him on August 1, and many business people, patients and friends came to celebrate his life. He'll be truly missed.'
Bob was born March 19, 1946, and was raised in Seattle. He moved to Gresham with his beloved cat, Meowsha, in 1990. He was working toward a Masters degree in Opticianry. Bob served in the U.S. Air Force, and got his start in optometry while enlisted. Bob was an avid computer 'geek', and enjoyed reading, art, and cinema. He was well known for his good humor and his talents with eyeglasses. He was also an accomplished writer; having authored articles on opticianry for industry magazines, and also being the published author of a teleplay, a novel, and several short stories.
Dr. Scott Wojciechowski, Proprietor and Optometric Physician at the Vision Source, commented, 'Bob had a real knack for relating to people. He was also a hard worker who sincerely cared about our patients and our practice. He was usually the first one here in the morning and often the last to leave.'
Survivors include his son, Robert; daughter-in-law, Kymberlea; 3 granddaughters; and his sisters Poppy and Suzi.
