Alumni Hoop tourney coming to Beaverton

The third Annual Beaverton Boys Basketball Alumni Tournament tips-off this weekend with games at Beaverton High School beginning at 10 a.m. each day.

Some 100 alumni will participate in the 12-team field, with each of the past 15 seasons represented.

Admission is free and an alumni reception and basketball fundraiser will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Raccoon Lodge. Dinner tickets will be available at the tournament for $15.

All net proceeds from the weekend's events will go to the boys basketball program.

Silver Bullets to host tryouts

The Oregon Silver Bullets will be having tryouts for its 10U team (born in 2001 or 2002) from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, and from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

All tryouts will take place at Westview High School on the varsity field.

The team will consist of a few returning 10U players from last year's team and several new players.

This team will be coached by one of the existing 10U coaches and a former Oregon Silver Bullet 18 Gold coach.

This team will have focus on basic softball fundamentals, while having lots of fun and trying to get better each day.

Local players lead PBC back to Series

The Portland Baseball Club's 18U team is headed back to the Senior Babe Ruth World Series with several local players in tow.

PBC won the Pacific Northwest Regional tournament in Kitsap, Wash., and now advances to the World Series, set for Aug. 4-13 in Ephrata, Wash.

Beaverton-area players on the team include Aloha graduate Spencer Maxey, Westview High grads Phil Belding, Tyler Kotchik and Tanner Scott, Sunset grad Jon Bjorklund.

Valley Catholic diamond stars honored

Several members of the Valley Catholic baseball and softball teams won all-state honors this year.

In softball, senior catcher Hana Wright was named to the Class 3A all-state first team, junior center fielder Rebecca Baglai was named to the second team, and senior pitcher Kindra Mills was selected to the honorable mention squad.

In baseball, senior shortstop Cesar Catibayan was named to the 3A first team, and senior outfielder Ryan Foote won a spot on the second team.
