Notes: Congratulations to linebacker-special teams player Jon Pope, who coach Mike Bellotti calls pound-for-pound the strongest player on the Oregon team. The 6-1, 225-pound Pope will be put on scholarship starting in the fall term. There's no word yet on the scholarship status of walk-ons Matt Evensen from Franklin High and Andiel Brown from Cleveland. … Bellotti says offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz played the best game of his UO career against Fresno State. Sacks allowed by Oregon through two games: none. … 'We're a better team than the one that played in the Holiday Bowl,' Bellotti says. 'We understand our offense better.' And, he adds, 'we have a greater comfort zone playing Oklahoma' after facing the Sooners the past two years. Oklahoma leads the all-time series 6-0, and the Ducks are 11-25-1 against current Big 12 Conference teams. … Bellotti, on defensive line play: 'I'm disappointed anytime I see a back go untouched through the line of scrimmage and get into the secondary,' as happened at Fresno State. … The Ducks are 23-1 in nonconference home games under Bellotti (Indiana won 30-24 in 2004).
