A last-second hail Mary pass gives Gaston the win over Riverdale

Gaston clipped Riverdale 20-18 on Friday night with a stunning last-second hail Mary that was deflected into the hands of wideout Josh Breidenbach.

Trailing 18-14 with two seconds left on the clock and the ball at the Riverdale 20-yard line, Gaston quarterback Ryan Lewis dropped back and lofted a pass into the end zone. The ball came down in a flurry of Riverdale defensive backs but took a fortuitous tumble into the waiting hands of Breidenbach, who hauled in the pass for a touchdown with no time remaining on the clock.

Gaston led 14-12 in the fourth quarter before giving up the go-ahead score, and it appeared as if the Greyhounds (1-1) were sunk before Lewis and Breidenbach hooked up for the game-winning score.
