A memorial service for Troutdale resident Nathaniel 'Brad' Lindsey, 38, a staff sergeant with the Oregon Army National Guard who was killed Saturday, Sept. 9, in Afghanistan, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at New Hope Community Church, 11731 S.E. Stevens Road, Portland.
Private interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.
Brad was born in Portland to Dan and Donna Lindsey.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce, of Troutdale; sons, Brandon Laureta and Marcus Laureta; daughters, Kailina Don of Idaho and Michelle Lindsey of Troutdale; parents of Portland; and grandparents, Hollis and Winifred Shier of The Dalles.
Lindsey was assigned to the 205th Regional Corps Assistance Group in Kandahar as part of Coalition Joint Task Force Phoenix V. His unit worked closely with members of the Afghan National Army to train them to be a professional military corps.
He was promoted from the rank of sergeant to staff sergeant the day before he was killed by Taliban militants during an ambush.
