Western Oregon (3-0) looks for real. The Wolves followed up a victory over Linfield with a 36-10 win last week at home over Texas A and M-Kingsville. WOU got its usual big production from the trio of QB Mark Thorson (257 yards and three TDs passing), running back Eliot Vinzant (30 carries, 165 yards, two TDs on the ground, one in the air) and tight end Kevin Boss (seven catches, 139 yards, two TDs). Western plays at 6 p.m. Saturday at Southern Oregon.
• Linfield, meanwhile, needs to win five of its remaining seven games to extend its national record of consecutive winning seasons to 51. The Wildcats dropped to 0-2 with a 21-6 loss at seventh-ranked Hardin-Simmons. It's the first 0-2 start for Linfield since 1989, when the 'Cats finished 6-3. Next up: Willamette at Linfield on Sept. 30.
• Lewis and Clark's first home game in a year ended in a 38-20 loss to Pomona-Pitzer. Brandon Zerr-Smith (nine catches, 114 yards), Mike Wennerlind (three catches, 89 yards, two TDs) and Kevin Takeno (11 tackles) led the Pioneers. L and C (0-2) is at Colorado College on Saturday.
