Centennial can't recover from early deficit

GIRLS SOCCER -- Eagles suffer shutout against Wilson
by: David Ball, Centennial's Kelsey Khaw goes up for a ball deep in Wilson's zone. A hand-ball took away the Eagles' second-half scoring chance.

Wilson struck in the opening minute Tuesday night against Centennial and never looked back during a 2-0 girls soccer win.

Lindsay Bauman broke loose shortly after the opening kickoff to convert the game's first goal just 24 seconds into the match.

Centennial almost tied the game late in the first half when Jenny Jackson sent a pass to the LaChante Horton at the front of the goal, but her shot from 8 yards out curved right and deflected off the sidepost.

Wilson put the game out of reach 10 minutes into the second half on a breakaway goal by Bauman. Eagles' goalie Jaime Wik faced constant pressure in the second half and made seven saves before playing in the field for the final 15 minutes.

• In other girls action, Barlow fell 3-2 against McMinnville. The Bruins put several crossing passes through the box in the final five minutes, but couldn't connect for the tying goal.

• In Mount Hood Conference boys action, Gresham scored three times in the first 20 minutes and held off Sandy 3-2.

Expanded soccer coverage appears in the Wednesday, Sept. 20, issue of the Gresham Outlook.
