Green homes, sustainability take center stage at WL tour, forum
The West Linn Sustainability Task Force is sponsoring the first-ever West Linn Green/Solar Home Tour and seminars Oct. 7.
Sign-ins start at 10 a.m. at West Linn City Hall, 22500 Salamo Road. The seminars will feature speakers from the City of Portland's Office of Sustainable Development and The Energy Trust of Oregon.
At 10:30 a.m., Mike O'Brien, green building specialist, will discuss green building practices for the home. At 11:15 a.m., Kaci Brockman, solar programs manager for the Energy Trust, will present a solar incentives seminar.
The free, self-guided home tour starts at 12:30 p.m. Maps of homes can be picked up at the sign-in table at city hall from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The local tour is part of the American Solar Energy Society's National Solar Buildings Tour. It will include several West Linn homes that utilize solar hot water systems, green building techniques, passive solar design, daylighting, grid-connected solar electric (photovoltaic) systems and rainwater collection.

The League of West Linn Neighborhoods is hosting a Sustainability Forum at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the West Linn Library, 1595 Burns St.
Ken Hall, chair of the West Linn Sustainability Task Force, will present the recommendations of the Sustainable West Linn Strategic Plan. The meeting is open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.
