Volleyball: The Portland Pilots knocked off Portland State on Tuesday 26-30, 30-20, 30-23, 30-26 at Stott Center. Junior Nicole Thometz led UP with 24 kills, 14 digs and a .357 attack percentage. Senior Jessica Brodie, the Big Sky Conference player of the week last week, had 23 kills and 21 digs for PSU. Portland (7-6) starts West Coast Conference play with matches Sept. 28 at Loyola Marymount and Sept. 30 at Pepperdine. PSU takes a 2-0 Big Sky record into a 7 p.m. Saturday home match against Northern Arizona (0-2).
Soccer: The University of Portland women's soccer team, coming off a 4-0 victory at home over PSU on Sunday, is on the road this week for games Friday at Arizona and Sunday at Northern Arizona. The Pilots (5-2-1) are ranked fifth by Soccer Buzz and Soccer America. Notre Dame and Florida State rank 1-2 in Soccer Buzz and 2-1 in Soccer America.
