Lakers leverage early lead to outpace Kingsmen

Lake Oswego beats Putnam 35-14

LAKE OSWEGO - Will Darkins ran for 96 yards, and Duncan White passed for 181 yards to give Lake Oswego the win over Putnam 35-14 in the opening Three Rivers League game of the season Friday night in Lake Oswego.

Lake Oswego did most of its damage in the first half, registering a 28-0 lead largely on the strength of Darkins' 75 rushing yards in the first half. That spurt included the Lakers' first two touchdowns of the game.

White then added touchdown passes to Kyle Lavender and Eric Mann to push the Lakers' lead to 28-0 just before the half.

Despite their early lead, turnovers and penalties hurt the Lakers in the second half, giving the visiting Kingsmen a chance to score two second-half touchdowns. Those points came from quarterback Ryan Smith on a one-yard run and from Paul Stirneman's 25-yard interception return.

Putnam's Jeovonte Mayes rushed for a game high 127 yards on 23 carries.
