Soccer: The Portland Pilot women take a 9-2-1 record into Friday's 7 p.m. home game against Washington State, then open West Coast Conference play Sunday at Gonzaga. … The Pilot men (4-3-2) are at home 7 p.m. Friday versus Saint Mary's and 2 p.m. Sunday against Santa Clara.
Volleyball: Portland State lost its showdown match at Sacramento State last Saturday, three games to none. The Vikings (10-5, 5-1 Big Sky) play Thursday at Montana and Saturday at Montana State. Sac State, the defending conference champion, is 15-4, 4-1.
Cross country: Senior John Moore's third-place showing in last week's Bill Dellinger Invitational led the No. 7 Portland Pilot men to second place behind host Oregon. UP finished ahead of No. 11 BYU, No. 19 Alabama, No. 5 Texas and No. 30 American. Senior Chuck McKenzie was 18th, junior Michael Kilburg was 20th and sophomore Colin Longmuir was 22nd for UP. The Pilots were without their Nos. 2 and 3 runners, David Kinsella and Micah Rolfe, who were injured.
