MHC SOCCER - Barlow beats Centennial with late goal
The Gresham boys soccer team salvaged a 1-1 tie with Reynolds on Tuesday afternoon when Adrian Buturoaga found the net with 10 minutes to play.
The senior midfielder dribbled into the right corner and tried to pass a ball to a teammate in the center of the 18-yard box, but the ball was deflected back outside. Buturoaga was in position for a quick strike that sailed past a diving Reynolds goalie, hit the far post and bounced into the net for the equalizer.
The Raiders took their lead off a corner kick in the opening minute of the second half when Tony Plaucarte-Benson redirected the ball into the right side of the goal.
Raiders' goalie Josue Coreas maintained the tie with a save on a hard-hit ball, which he controlled at the goalline as the final whistle sounded.
In other Mount Hood boys action, Max Babson scored the game-winner in the 75th minute to lead Barlow past Centennial 3-2.
Girls play was highlighted by Gresham, which earned a 2-0 shutout against Reynolds. St. Mary's also picked up a shutout, blanking Centennial 3-0 at Delta Park.
