'Evening Under the Stars'
WHAT: Enjoy a unique 'tour' of the night sky and get all your astronomy questions answered at this 'Star Party' at historic Timberline Lodge. Astronomy professors Doug McCarty and Dr. Todd Duncan, along with a number of amateur astronomers, will provide telescopes for the public to view the moon, Saturn, ancient star clusters, galaxies, dying stars and the center of the Milky Way Galaxy from an elevation of 6,000 feet on the southern slope of Mount Hood.
WHEN: 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6.
WHERE: Timberline Lodge. The program begins with an introduction in the Barlow Room inside the lodge, followed by stargazing in the Salmon River lot.
WHO: Presented by the U.S. Forest Service and RLK and Company.
COST: Free. Donations will be accepted to ensure programs like this can be continued in the future.
