Five Banks residents are competing for three city council seats in next month's election.
Incumbents Peter Edison, Daniel Keller and Jason Short are being challenged by contenders Michael Schorn and Doug Walters. The remaining Banks councilors - Teri Branstitre, Brian Biehl, and Craig Stewart - do not need to seek re-election until 2008.
The candidates running for the council come from diverse backgrounds in both governmental and professional experience.Edison, a partner in a seafood company, has been on the council since 2002. Keller, a senior business analyst at Nike, has served for a year. Short, appointed to the council this summer, works as a Washington County prosecutor.
Michael Schorn, a field service technician, has worked as a liaison between nonprofit groups and government agencies. Doug Walters owns several small companies but has no prior government experience.
Profiles of all five candidates will appear in next week's issue of the News-Times.
