Parenting course offers childcare
First Baptist Church of Gresham, 224 W. Powell Blvd., will offer 'Help Me … I'm a Parent!' a six-week parenting course from 9:30 to 11 a.m. each Wednesday beginning Oct. 11. Childcare will be provided.
The class will offer families the opportunity to learn basic parenting skills in an encouraging, interactive environment.
'Help Me … I'm a Parent!' is based on the book, 'Ten Things Every Child Needs' and will provide practical tools and suggestions for healthy, effective parenting.
Cost is $10 per person and includes materials.

Powell Valley has cooking class
The Youth Commission at Powell Valley Covenant Church, 1335 S.E. 282nd Ave., Gresham, will be hosting a cooking class fund-raiser at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17. Participants will enjoy an evening of fun, food and friends complete with a cooking demonstration and food tasting.
Niki Davis, senior manager for DeMarle at Home® will teach participants about flexible non-stick baking and cookware that has been used by professional chefs for many years.
Now these products are available for the everyday kitchen use and are easy to clean and store.
Powell Valley's Youth Ministries Fund will receive between 10 and 20 percent of all sales made.
Participants who arrive on time will receive a raffle ticket to be entered in a drawing for a door prize. Individuals can also sign up a friend to get a second door prize.
Attendees also will receive a raffle ticket for each $20 they spend and will have the chance to win hostess reward products. Winners will get to choose their molds and don't have to be present to win.
Additional raffle tickets will be given to people who sign up to host a show in the next six weeks.
Cost is $5 per person. Registration and payment are required by Sunday, Oct. 15.

Organist to play at Trinity, Holy Rosary
James O'Donnell, the master of choristers and organist at Westminster Abbey, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 147 N.W. 19th Ave., Portland.
As part of the annual Catherine Crozier Memorial Organ Recital, O'Donnell will perform music by Alain, Bach, Durufle and Parry and Frank. He will also accompany the men of the Trinity Cathedral Choir and Cantores in Ecclesia in a performance of Maurice Durufle's Messe 'Cum Jubilo.'
Cost is $10 per person.

O'Donnell will also perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Holy Rosary Church, 375 N.E. Clackamas St., Portland.
He will perform music by Bach, Mendelssohn and Mozart to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the installation of the church's organ.
A solemn Latin Mass will follow the recital at 7:30 p.m. The men of the Trinity Cathedral Choir and Cantores in Ecclesia will sing Maurice Durufle's Messe 'Cum Jubilo' as part of the Mass.
A free-will offering will be taken.
Women of Faith hold conference
America's largest Christian women's conference, Women of Faith, will be held Friday and Saturday, Oct. 13-14, at the Rose Quarter, 1 N. Center Court St., Portland.
The conference will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The event will continue from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14. Doors open at 8 a.m. Special guests will include Kathy Troccoli, a singer and speaker who has won multiple Dove Awards; Avalon, a Christian pop group that has garnered three Grammy nominations and won six Dove Awards and Robin McGraw, the author of Inside My Heart.
Others guests will includes author and speaker Carol Kent and New York Times best-selling author Donna VanLiere.
