Bruins strike quickly in 2-0 win

The Barlow girls soccer team struck twice in the opening minutes and maintained that lead the rest of the way for a 2-0 win against Reynolds on Wednesday night.

Micaela Capelle opened the scoring when she broke loose in the middle of the field. She slipped trying to stop the ball, but regained her balance and sent a low shot into the center of the goal. Barlow teammate Katherine Gaulke followed with a blast from 30 yards out that sailed over the top of the Reynolds goalie for a two-goal lead just 10 minutes into the match.

'Those goals gave us confidence,' Gaulke said. 'It gave us the energy boost we needed to stay on our toes the whole time.'

The Bruins maintained possession in the Reynolds half most of the night, and maintained the shutout when goalie Lindsey King jumped over a crowd to pull down a dangerous corner kick with 2:32 left.

In boys soccer action, Gresham scored in the 15th minute to shutout last-place Sandy 3-0.
